Stalled

Mind is blank. Not much to say. Don't know if I'm shell-shocked by kids, dismayed about current events (more talk about war on Iran before this administration quits its office, talk of nuclear proliferation in the form of blueprints on a smuggler group's laptop) and anxiety about food shortage. Sometimes feeling that humankind is on an island that is sinking and we're all scrambling to get closer to the top as more and more submerges. Those of us in rich countries get to breathe a little longer before the top disappears.

Or maybe I'm in one of those empty places between the spokes that helps define the wheel, the empty spot in a poem that gives it meter.

In any of the cases...a great dispirited yuck.

It will get better. The Calvary will arrive in January with hope and reason.

When did you write this? Was it was about the same time I was feeling like I was feeling in my latest?

Suzy means Cavalry... but I'm sure we could get some meaning from throwing Calvary into it as well... the place of crucifixions, the place of the skull.

The empty spot in the poem, the pause for breath, the moment of reflection... now there's something for you to consider.

So funny, Doug. I opened up your blog to see if I did indeed write this around the same time as your latest--and what's playing but Chopin's funeral march.

Bwahahahahahaha!

I posted mine yesterday (Monday) at 8:20 in the evening. So their may be some overlap in our malaise.

I thought I'd been keeping better track, was trying to time my posts to have something juicy (to me anyway) for my 100th, but it would appear that "Stalled" was it! Oh joy.

Tee hee--I always have to tiptoe between Calvary, Calgary, and Cavalry.

Thanks, Suzy! Where ya been keeping yourself! How welcome to see your post. Queue up the William Tell Overture! (Did you happen to see Maddy's post that featured the utube embed of Vadrum playing it on his drums? Inspiring.) Still, there's a lot of mischief can be done between now and January 2009. (at least I don't have to wait that long for school to start.)

OUCH!!! And I call myself a writer...

It's the Italian Catholic in me...and the bad speller.

Thanks for the correction Doug-
Calvary is the PRESENT administration......

I find myself in that empty spot quite a bit -- I love the image -- because it isn't it a dynamic and fluid life -- the ups and downs...but I agree the larger picture of the world can seem bleak at times...I always have to step away and into my garden and believe in the best of people -- not always easy for me...and now that summer is here there's just constant chaos with W -- but for me it's just one 8 year old boy -- and just half time -- so I completely commiserate...shellshocked is right.

I did indeed read No Mercy. Very good.

Previous O'hanlon: Trawler, and Into the Heart of Borneo (very, very good).

Oh I hear your dispirited yuck. I find it all so confusing and saddening and oh my god a food shortage? sheesh. With so many of us obese....I just do not get it.

The present administration certainly is as slow as a crucifixion, and I fear there's a lot more damage they can do in their time left.

It helps me, Pam, to think of these dispirited stalled places as the empty space that defines the wheel and spokes(etc)...usually some perspective shows the empty places are/were completely necessary even if not so pleasant while being experienced. Knowing this is true from the past, I hope to be able to apply some future perspective to it...

Mercurious, how was "Trawler"? "No Mercy", and "Borneo" made me committed fans. The one of his trip on a tributary of the Amazon was also great. I think that may have been the one with the headhunters, but maybe it was Borneo.

Crazymumma, I'm so glad you stopped by!
